Add contrast to your herb garden by growing the perenially popular organic Chives; with their onion-like appearance, topped off with a wonderful display of purple flowerheads in summer, they will make a perfect foil for the more leafier herbs in your kitchen garden.
The mild onion flavour of chives is a welcome addition to any self-respecting salad or stew, and is an ideal accompanyment to dishes containing egg. Not only are chives nice to look at and eat, but they will also prove popular with pollinating insects in the garden; when planted amongst carrots their aroma will confuse the dreaded carrot-fly and they can even be crushed to form an organic insecticide.
