There'll be no crying when you see the results of growing organic Ramrod spring onions, as this very popular overwintering variety is much feted by grow-your-owners across the country. A crisp and very tasty addition to salads, Ramrod onions can be cropped in spring (after overwintering), late summer and autumn and have the distinctive, Lisbon-type, long white stems and green tops.

Tender and mild to taste when young, the bulbs can left to swell and develop a much stronger flavour if desired.

225 seeds per packet
Seeds certified organic by the Soil Association
Relatively easy crop to grow as generally unaffected by pests and diseases
Sow from early spring onwards for continual crops
An early autumn sowing should result in seedlings large enough to overwinter
Sow seed 1-2cm deep, 1cm apart and leave 30cm between rows
Onions are traditionally used to cure ailments and can be an aid to lower cholesterol levels
