The chisels are excellent quality and made a much appreciated gift. However this review was tempered by the relatively poor quality of the case. I had to glue the top as it was coming apart and also strengthen the inside of the box to mend one of the hinges that had come apart. The screw holding the hinges are simply too short. Simple to remedy by the manufacturer.
Bought one of these chisels many years ago which has been excellent. I now have bought the "full" set which need honing and applied to practical use - hence 3*'s for performance and build quality as it is too early to be asked to assess these qualities. I won't be rushed into a half baked opinion.
The chisels are of the usual marples high quality, and i am thoroughly satisfied with them. However, the poor quality box could have had a carrying handle. I am disabled and walk with two sticks and therefore need a handle to enable me to carry the box from place to place. I have since fitted a handle to the box.
No one questions irwin marples' ability to make good workman-like tools including chisels, but for choice i would select a finer grade of chisel for bench work with wooden handles, although the blue chip chisel is a good standard bench tool.
In terms of the chisels themselves, fantastic product, very happy with them. But, as this product was a gift i was very disappointed to find the box was falling apart. Nothing that wasn't fixable with bostik but just very disappointed.
After using inferior stanley ones these chisels just show that you get what you pay for a top class chisel at a reasonable price.Definetly a good deal.
