Decorating the garden with rose or garden globes of glass is a tradition dating back many centuries. This custom has experienced a renaissance in recent years. Rose globes can now be found in the magnificent gardens of large houses or on the balconies of city apartments. Originally these "good luck globes", which have been used since at least the end of the 13th century and were placed between flowers and medicinal herbs, had the task of warding off misfortune and disease from the garden, the house and those who lived in it, and instead to give happiness, blessings and fertility. Since rose globes have in the meantime become extremely popular, cheap imitations can be found in DIY stores and garden centres. While our globes have "genuinely coloured" glass, there are examples in the market that produce their colour only as a result of a coloured, metallic reflective coating.
