This Hozelock 3959 Blanketweed Treatment is an extremely effective method of removing this pernicious alga from your pond. It is a fast working biological treatment which contains dried bacteria designed to eat the same food as Blanketweed and is harmless to fish and pond life.

Blanketweed is a long thin filamentous alga which thrives in ornamental ponds. Its growth is increased by bright sunlight and shallow fast running water which means that it will be found in waterfalls and unshaded pond areas. In ornamental ponds stocked with fish the fish excrement contains nitrates and dissolved ammonia which are favoured by Blanketweed. This means that apart from normal growth by photosynthesis the weed will grow even faster.

If left unchecked Blanketweed can cause serious oxygen depletion in ponds and can also cause stress to larger fish that find it an obstruction.
