Melon ‘Castella’ has been specially bred to produce large melons out of doors as well as in the greenhouse. The colourful striped fruits of Melon ‘Castella’ can swell to 3.5lb, and are tender, juicy and sweet. The delicious fruits can be harvested from midsummer and will store in the fridge for at least 1 week longer than other varieties - they will even freeze well too! This RHS AGM variety also has good resistance to powdery mildew and Fusarium races 0 to 2. Height and spread: 2m (6’, 6").Melons require high temperatures and humidity. In all but the very warmest areas cultivation is most successful in a greenhouse, or under cover of a cold frame or cloche when growing melons in the UK.
