A reasonably priced beginner's model made in France. The 7 cm long blade is made from premium-quality carbon steel, the handle is hardwood. As with all Opinel knives, the blade swivels for safety. Garden or pruning knives are different from normal pocket knives in that they have a characteristically sickle-shaped curved blade. They have apparently been in existence since the 15th century. Pruning knives are used for cutting, scarifying, and pruning hedge plants to prevent them from growing into thick, wide hedges. They are particularly useful for lifting off the bark when grafting, for twining, for making cuttings and cutting slender tree shoots.
