A thornless, cold-tolerant artichoke producing deep, thick-fleshed, nutty-tasting hearts. Open and erect habit with buds on long stems for ease of harvest. Will crop in its first year if sown early. Sow February-March; harvest July-November. Can be grown as an annual or perennial. A delicious, exotic (yet easy to grow) vegetable, popular in victorian times. COOKING HINTS: Remove outer leaves and boil for 30-45 minutes in salted water.
