Common name: Bird Cherry Our Royal Horticultural Society Bird Cherry ( Prunus padus ) is an attractive, fast growing native deciduous cherry. It carries racemes (strands) small, almond scented white flowers in early summer (MayJune) appear after the foliage emerges in spring. Flowers are followed by astringent, edible peasized black cherries which ripen in midsummer. As with most cherries, the foliage turns yellow in autumn.
