Common Name: Broad Leaved Lime Our Royal Horticultural Society Broad Leaved Lime ( Tilia platyphyllos ) is a native hedge with a doomed crown and dense foliage. The large pale to midgreen alternately ovate leaves are; mid to dark green above and below, with white downy hair on the underside, particularly along the veins. The small hermaphrodite yellowishwhite coloured, sweetly scented flowers are produced in clusters of three to four in early summer with a leafy yellowgreen subtending bract. The flowers in summer are erect and dominate the foliage, and give rise to very small hairless fruit. Followed by small, round cream colored fruit. The Shoots are redviolet on the side exposed to the sun but a light redbrown on the shaded side.
