The Hebe pinguifolia Pagei is a favourite shrub for low maintenance gardens, as it is a low growing evergreen plant that needs little or no pruning. It has purple stems with bluegreen, leathery leaves and from late spring to early summer the shrub is covered in a profusion of white flowers. Although all hebes can tolerate shade, they flower best in full sun and must have welldrained soil with plenty of compost worked in to prevent the roots from becoming too dry.
