The RHS Premium Ilex x alaclerensis Golden King is a bushy evergreen, with broad ovate, slightly spiny, darkgreen leaves margined with bright yellow. In spring and summer it bears small, dullwhite flowers. In autumn masses of red berries are produced and last through the winter months. The plants suits most soils in sun or partial shade. It will reach a height of 8m and a spread of 4m when mature. The Golden King holly is a female variety, in order to produce berries, it is advised that a male plant is in a near vicinity to aid pollination. It is recommended that for every 5 female plants there is 1 male pollinator.
