Originating in Italy, San Marzano is probably the best cooking tomato in the world, making great puree or sauce but is equally good for slicing in salads.. Average Packet Contents 22 seeds. Sow into pots or trays using a finely sieved moist seed compost covering the seed with 6mm (¼") of compost. Place in a propagator on a windowsill or in the greenhouse maintaining 18-21°C (65-70°F). Transplant resulting seedlings, when large enough to handle, individually into 75mm (3") pots and grow on. When first flower buds are showing, plant out singly into 25-30cm (10-12") pots, growing bags, or direct into the greenhouse border 45cm (18") apart. Commence feeding when first tiny fruits appear. Shade plants when growing in the greenhouse.. . . .
