Larix decidua is a mediumsize to large deciduous coniferous plant reaching 2545 m tall, with a trunk up to 1 m diameter (exceptionally, to 55 m tall and 2 m diameter). The crown is conic when young, becoming broad with age. It is very cold tolerant, able to survive winter temperatures down to at least 50 C. The seeds are an important food for some birds.
