Lobelia Tupa is an unusual Lobelia which is very tropical in appearance. Thick red stems carrying tropical looking orchid-like scarlet red flowers arise from a large rosette of thick leathery felted leaves. Best grown in a sheltered sunny position. Needs winter protection.

Sowing:
Sow seeds in trays pots etc of good seed compost in a propagator or warm place to maintain an optimum temperature of 20-25C (70-75F). Surface sow seeds on a peat/sand mix seed compost and do not exclude light.

Sowing Time:
February to March.
Germination usually takes 14-30 days.

Growing:
Transplant when large enough to handle into 7.5cm (3) pots. Gradually acclimatise to outdoor conditions before planting out after all risk of frost 3cm (12) apart in a ordinary well drained soil in full sun or ideally in light shade.

Aftercare:
Cover plant with a mulch of bracken leaves or other twigs over the winter months.
