The Malus Red Sentinel is yet another beautiful variety of the Crabapple species. It is a broadly upright tree and is a real delight for all seasons. In the spring its branches are filled with thick clusters of pretty white flowers that have sprung from delicate pink buds. These scented blossoms are then followed by the huge scale production of blood red glossy globular fruits that sit heavily in the branches of the tree. Throughout the rest the autumn period the trees ovate deep green leaves will turn yellow and bronze then drop leaving the tree bare of leaves but still full with fruit, that bird permitting, should occupy the branches for much of winter creating a striking effect.
