Preferred common name: Norway spruce Our Royal Horticultural Society Norway Spruce( Picea abies ) is a large evergreen coniferous hedge growing to 3555 m tall and with a trunk diameter of up to 11.5 m. The shoots are orangebrown and glabrous (hairless). The leaves are needlelike, 1224 mm long, quadrangular in crosssection (not flattened), and dark green on all four sides with inconspicuous stomatal lines. The cones are 917 cm long (the longest of any spruce), and have bluntly to sharply triangularpointed scale tips. They are green or reddish, maturing brown 57 months after pollination.
