The Sarracenia Oreophila is commonly known as the American Pitcher Plant and is a wonderful fly catcher. They produce yellow flowers in spring which are followed by bright yellow pitchers. The pitchers can grow up to 60 cms high (24 inches). In the winter the foliage is sickle shaped and is shades of lime green and claret. It is fully hardy and can be planted outside in the garden or inside a greenhouse or on a window sill. One important consideration is that Sarracenia s do not respond well to tap water, so it is recommended to use rain water.
