The solar Jar can also be used anywhere in the home that gets hours of direct sunlight a window sill for example. All you need is sunlight - which can be a little scarce in a UK winter. Once I receive my jar how do I get started? When your solar jar arrives simply remove the lid move the small switch to ‘on’ and the reseal the lid. That’s it - everything else is automatic. The Solar panel turns the suns rays into electricity and stores it in a small internal battery. A photo electric cell then tells the unit when the daylight levels have fallen and activates the jar’s LED lights automatically at dusk. It will then give colour until the battery runs out. The length of illumination time depends on the amount and strength of the sunlight falling on the solar panel. With a full day’s bright sunshine charge your solar jar should illuminate for approximately 4 to 6 hours. Top tips for successful solar jar lighting All solar lights need direct sunlight. Position the jar to face south. Avoid overhanging bushes plants or trees that may block the suns rays and reduce the effectiveness of the solar unit. Avoid positioning the Jar under or near an outside light – which may confuse the day light sensor and make the lights stay off at night. Solar Jars must be British - they don’t like rain clouds and winter! In bad weather or winter your solar jars will not function very well. Please don’t expect it to work everyday of the year in the UK. We have a very low rate of sunlight compared with some our central European neighbours. Solar lights work really well with bright sunshine (Spring and Summer) but may not work on a dull winters day.
