Runner Bean Scarlet Emperor have a good flavour and are excellent in summer salads. They are good for your health too providing a good source of Vitamin C Iron and high fibre content. Runner Bean Scarlet Emperor is a Heritage variety with huge crops of medium sized pods throughout the summer.

Sow May to July outdoors directly into rich well prepared soil in a sunny spot. Provide support for climbing either a row or wigwam of 180cm canes or netting sowing 2 seeds against each cane 4cm deep. They can also be sown individually in small pots or cells under glass at 18-20C from mid April to transplant outdoors once all risk of frost has passed. When growing keep watered particularly once flowering starts adding mulch during hotter dry periods. Harvest July to September; pick pods regularly whilst young for heaviest yields and to extend the season.
